Passthrough Entity Selection: Options & Considerations (2 CPE credits, Federal Taxation)

This in-person presentation and discussion examines the options available to businesses organizing as a passthrough entity. Attendees will deepen their knowledge of the information that should be presented to self-employed and small-business clients, as well as the tax benefits and advantages of electing the status of sole proprietorship, partnership, or S-Corp. Additional areas of focus will be deductions for the self-employed, partnership liability, basis calculation, and reasonable compensation for S-Corp shareholders.

This in-person lecture-based course will delve into one of the most thoroughly confusing topics of federal taxation: the concept of basis. Special attention will be paid to real, personal, and business property basis; business owner and shareholder basis; basis in inherited property and gifts; and depreciation and depreciation recapture.

Blurred Lines: The Nuance of Modern Ethical Professional Dilemmas (2 CPE credits, Ethics)

This in-person lecture-based course will delve into the history and evolution of federal taxation. Special attention will be paid to both the popular and not-so-popular Code provisions passed by Congress and administered by the Internal Revenue Service and its predecessors over the past 200+ years that has endured to the present day.

Death & Taxes (2 CPE credits, Federal Taxation)

This in-person lecture-based course examines the many ways in which a taxpayer’s death impacts taxation, from final return filing requirements to the multitude of inheritance impacts on the living.

The Helpful EA: Assisting Elderly, Disabled, and Low-Income Taxpayers (2 CPE credits, Federal Taxation)

This in-person lecture-based course examines both the practical tax assistance available to disadvantaged taxpayers and taxpayers with special circumstances, as well as the soft skills like empathetic listening required to ensure the taxpayer is being properly assisted.

Prime Movers: The Bloodline of Federal Taxation (2 CPE credits, Federal Taxation)

This in-person lecture- and discussion-based course will explore the more nuanced crises of ethics that tax professionals face. Moving beyond the obvious, this course will tackle the concepts of implicit bias, subtle exploitation, and equity.
